Researchers from ICREC-IGTP have conducted a preclinical study on the effects of the drug empagliflozin, alone or in combination with sacubitril/valsartan, in the early phase following a myocardial infarction. The combination of the two showed promising results.
Researchers from the Experimental Tuberculosis Unit (UTE) at the IGTP and the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital have published a study in Nature Communications in which, for the first time, the transcriptomic profile of human tuberculosis lung lesions is correlated with clinical data from the same patients.
Researchers from IGTP analysed in-hospital mortality in 5,813 COVID-19 patients across four epidemic waves in Catalonia, focusing on whether patients had a ceiling of care. Mortality decreased significantly over time for patients without a ceiling of care, but remained consistently high in those with one. These findings underscore the need to account for ceiling of care when evaluating COVID-19 outcomes and planning future healthcare responses.
The IGTP, through the INEDIT group, is involved in three major European projects committed to health innovation, with over €12 million in funding.

On 2 June, IGTP hosted the kick-off event for the DM1-Hub, a multicentre project driven by the the group GRENBA, which aims to create a comprehensive national registry of patients with Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1). The event brought together researchers, clinical professionals, institutional representatives and patient associations from across Spain.

IGTP’s strategic project GCAT|Genomes for Life has published a study in the journal Scientific Reports proposing a method to correct selection biases in population-based cohorts. The study represents a significant step forward in improving the reliability of data derived from such studies for public health research and precision medicine.

New insights into the complexities of Long COVID have been brought to light, thanks to an international collaborative effort with the participation of researchers from GCAT|Genomes for life, a strategic project of IGTP. A study published today in Nature Genetics used the vast data from the COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative to perform the first study examining the entire genetic code specifically focused on Long COVID.
