A project on an innovative tool for cancer surgery, selected in the 2025 CaixaImpulse call

The "la Caixa" Foundation has announced the results of the 2025 call for proposals for its CaixaImpulse program, through which it supports 31 biomedical projects from research centres, hospitals and universities in Spain and Portugal. A project coordinated by IIS IGTP led by Ana Piqueras (HUGTiP) has been selected in the call to continue with the development and implementation of a medical device to find and remove cancer cells more accurately during surgery.

The Department of Equality and Feminisms funds the Dona+ project, led by CEEISCAT-IGTP, to improve healthcare for women living with HIV

The Department of Equality and Feminisms of the Government of Catalonia has granted funding to a research project addressing gender inequalities and the health of women in vulnerable situations. The study is led by CEEISCAT, a research group of the IGTP.

Germans Trias, the first centre in Spain to include a patient in an international study on the early treatment of aortic stenosis

The iCor team at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital and Research Institute is the first in Spain to enrol a patient in the international EASY-AS study, a clinical trial to evaluate whether intervening before the first symptoms of severe aortic stenosis appear can improve clinical outcomes.

A community-based action led by IGTP facilitates screening and access to treatment for viral hepatitis among migrant populations in Catalonia

On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, IGTP presents the results of the HepBClink project, which has combined community educational actions on hepatitis B and C with screening and referral to treatment for migrants from Pakistan, Senegal and Romania. The project has involved the participation of the DxEpiPath group at IGTP and is part of the Tranversal Program CORE.

A new European study with the participation of GCAT reveals that the combination of urban environmental factors increases asthma risk

Researchers from GCAT have taken part in a study on the effects of various environmental factors on the risk of developing asthma over the course of life. The study involved nearly 350,000 participants from European cohorts and used geolocation technologies and satellite imagery to estimate exposure to different environmental elements. The results show a clear link between urban conditions and an increased risk of asthma.

Fundación Mutua funds a Can Ruti project on the role of unknown viruses in head and neck tumours

Research teams from IGTP, ICO and IrsiCaixa have been granted funding from Fundación Mutua Madrileña to conduct the ERICA Project, which aims to investigate the role of viral infections in the development of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

Boehringer Ingelheim and the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute strengthen their collaboration in preclinical research

The agreement between Boehringer Ingelheim and IGTP builds on a collaboration that began in 2020 to improve understanding of cardio-renal-metabolic diseases and their interconnection, and now includes the development of a new line of research to assess the potential of novel molecules in this field.

DM1-Hub launches as a national multi-centre study to transform research and care for Myotonic Dystrophy type 1

On 2 June, IGTP hosted the kick-off event for the DM1-Hub, a multicentre project driven by the the group GRENBA, which aims to create a comprehensive national registry of patients with Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1). The event brought together researchers, clinical professionals, institutional representatives and patient associations from across Spain.
