The closing event celebrated on 17 November highlighted the work carried out and strengthened the commitment to maintain and expand the synergies created within the framework of the Plan. IGTP has contributed to several collaborative projects, focused on type 2 diabetes, breast cancer and medical databases.
The Talents Grants for the 2024 and 2025 editions have been granted by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, supporting healthcare professionals in developing research projects that will lead to their doctoral theses. This initiative, originally created through a collaboration with the Research Institute and Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, now also includes Hospital Clínic Barcelona, the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology and Hospital de Bellvitge.
The unit will address the prevention, detection, assessment and management of diseases and environmental risks that may affect children and adolescents. Through its Research Institute, the Hospital is also leading an international study in Spain to reduce children's exposure to endocrine disruptors and assess their impact on child health.
A new study provides a powerful way to study infections in environments that closely mimic human organs. The strategy, tested in a bone-marrow-on-chip model, was developed by researchers from ISGlobal, IGTP, I3S at Porto University, and IN2UB, as part of the HIDDENVIVAX project, funded by "la Caixa" Foundation.

IGTP has obtained funding for six projects, consolidating its trajectory in the field of biomedical and translational research on respiratory diseases. These projects, which address challenges such as tuberculosis, pulmonary fibrosis and legionellosis, represent the excellence and diversity of the research developed at the Can Ruti Campus.
A project led by the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital and Research Institute has developed an AI-based facial recognition system, AcroFace, capable of detecting early signs of acromegaly with 93% accuracy. The researchers are now conducting a larger pilot study with 4,000 images from the general population to confirm these promising results and improve early diagnosis of this rare disease.

A study led by GCAT-IGTP links the VEGFA protein to long COVID, especially in postmenopausal women, suggesting a vascular mechanism behind persistent symptoms. The findings highlight the need to consider sex and hormonal status in long COVID research and treatment.
CEEISCAT and the Grupo de Trabajo sobre Tratamientos del VIH (gTt-VIH) announce the start of data collection for the SEXPROM Study, a pioneering investigation in Spain that will explore sexual satisfaction among people living with HIV, with a differentiated focus by gender and sexual orientation.
The "la Caixa" Foundation has announced the results of the 2025 call for proposals for its CaixaImpulse program, through which it supports 31 biomedical projects from research centres, hospitals and universities in Spain and Portugal. A project coordinated by IIS IGTP led by Ana Piqueras (HUGTiP) has been selected in the call to continue with the development and implementation of a medical device to find and remove cancer cells more accurately during surgery.
