Roger Paredes (Germans Trias Hospital, IrsiCaixa and the Fight Infections Foundation) coordinates the international NAVIS study, launched by the WHO to advance knowledge of Andes hantavirus. The initiative also includes an advanced virology and immunology study coordinated by IrsiCaixa and IGTP Principal Investigators Julià Blanco and Nuria Izquierdo-Useros.
IGTP has concluded a new cycle of visits to its laboratories as a part of La Marató "Visita la Recerca" program. More than fifty people had the opportunity to explore the biomedical research carried out at the institute through talks, workshops, and guided tours of the laboratories and facilities.
A study led by the IVECAT group at IGTP has identified a key mechanism regulating the anti-inflammatory function of extracellular vesicles derived from mesenchymal stromal cells. The findings, published in the Journal of Extracellular Vesicles, provide new insights into the therapeutic potential of these vesicles in inflammatory diseases and ischaemic processes.
The DIVINE cohort brings together clinical data from 5,813 patients hospitalised with COVID-19 during the first four waves of the pandemic and makes it available to the scientific community through an open, accessible and reusable resource. Published in Scientific Data, this multicentre database has already contributed to several studies and aims to support further research into the clinical progression of COVID-19, associated risk factors and the development of predictive models.
A team from the IGTP, in collaboration with the Home Hospitalisation Service (HAD) of the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital and the technology company Doole Health, has evaluated the usability of an artificial intelligence-based voice assistant for the remote clinical monitoring of patients. The results show good acceptance among both healthcare professionals and patients, including individuals with limited access to or use of digital technologies.

The European project BT4ChildLC, led by IGTP, has advanced precision medicine for childhood liver cancer by combining large-scale biological data with innovative preclinical models to identify new biomarkers and therapeutic strategies. The results provide a strong foundation for future international studies and highlight the importance of collaboration in advancing research into rare paediatric cancers.
On the occasion of World Multiple Sclerosis Day, GCAT-IGTP, in collaboration with the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, has promoted a video exploring multiple sclerosis through the perspectives of clinical practice, biomedical research and personal experience. The video highlights current research into the link between multiple sclerosis and the Epstein-Barr virus, as well as the value of population cohorts such in advancing more preventive and personalised medicine.
A study led by researchers from the Respitatory and Immune Repair (REPAIR) group at IGTP has identified alterations in the endocannabinoid system associated with the most severe forms of acute pancreatitis. The findings, published in The Journal of Pathology, describe a disruption linked to the most severe forms of the disease and point to the potential of the endocannabinoid system as both a biomarker of severity and a future therapeutic target.
In a study recently published in the journal Theranostics, a research team led by Dr Carolina Gálvez-Montón (IGTP- Heart Failure and Cardiac Regeneration -ICREC group) and Dr Kurt Pfannkuche (University of Cologne) reports the development of a strategy based on cardiac organoids to address these limitations.
IGTP has presented the PATH Advanced Therapies Program (Program of Advanced Therapies) at an event held on 14 May in the auditorium of Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol.
