The CIBERES collection, within the Pulmonary Biobank Platform, has been housed in the IGTP-HUGTP Biobank since 2012. The Pulmonary Biobank Platform finances the audit necessary for the certification, which is required for all their collections. The certificate covers the collection, processing and storage and distribution of biological samples in respiratory medicine.
A study coordinated by researchers of the Centre for Epidemiological Studies of Sexually Transmitted Disease and AIDS in Catalonia (CEEISCAT) a research group affiliated with and based at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) publish a paper in the HIV Lancet showing the risk factors for suffering severe covid-19 for people living with HIV in Catalonia. The results show that people living with HIV at the same time as other chronic diseases and unsuppressed viral loads have a higher risk of suffering severe covid-19 and should be given priority for testing, medical management and vaccination programmes to protect against SARS-CoV-2.

The "la Caixa" Foundation aims to bring 20 new biomedical projects with large social impacts to the market more rapidly within the framework of the CaixaResearch Validate and Consolidate 2021 calls. Two of this year's projects are led by groups from the IGTP. The programme aims to boost innovation and technological and knowledge transfer in the field of biomedicine and health and create new companies based on research
The project, led by Hernando A del Portillo, is one of the 30 projects selected from over 600 proposals presented in the 2021 call. The "CaixaResearch" programme on Health Research has selected 30 new cutting-edge biomedical research projects in Spain and Portugal, including the one led by Hernando A del Portillo, ICREA researcher at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and co-affiliated with the Germans Trias i Pujol Institute (IGTP).
An International consortium discovers various genetic markers associated with infection by SARS-CoV-2 and the severity of covid-19. The IGTP forms part of the consortium with the GCAT|Genomes for Life Project, a population cohort of 20,000 people from across Catalonia. The GCAT has contributed the analyzed data of 5,000 participants to the study
