Two projects from IGTP funded by ”la Caixa” Foundation to transition their innovative research from the laboratory to patients

The first urine test that detects kidney fibrosis as an alternative to kidney biopsies, an initiative from the IVECAT group, and a project applying artificial intelligence to rapidly categorise stroke patients and enhance their recovery chances, from the Neurovascular Research group, are two of the fifteen projects from Catalan research centres selected within the 2023 call of the new CaixaImpulse Healthcare Innovation programme.

An article published in Nature Communications on the pilot study carried out in Catalonia to evaluate the self-collection of biological samples reveals the high acceptability of the proposal and the key role of diagnosis in people without symptoms of mpox.

Taking patients with haemorrhagic stroke to the nearest centre improves their prognosis

A study co-led by researchers from IGTP, IIB Sant Pau and IDIBGI concludes that direct transport to a referral centre for endovascular treatment may not be the best option for patients with a final diagnosis of intracerebral haemorrhage or haemorrhagic stroke.

RIGHT PLUS network formalised in Buenos Aires as a collaboration between academic centres and civil society in Ibero-America

The Ibero-American network RIGHT PLUS, of which the CEEISCAT is a founding member and, together with Coalition Plus, co-coordinator, has presented its launch at a meeting in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on 28-29 August.

Two IGTP groups lead a European analysis to understand key factors for digitalisation in practice environments

The research groups in Nursing Care (NURECARE) and Innovation, Health Economics and Digital Transformation (INEDIT) from the IGTP are leading the publication of the first report on the key factors for introducing digital technologies in professional nursing practice environments. Through this effort, professionals from the Germans Trias Hospital are participating for the first time in the design of a comprehensive analysis of the required changes, while also offering recommendations to ensure the success of any initiative aimed at incorporating these technologies into hospitals.

The Generalitat de Catalunya recognises 21 IGTP groups as Consolidated or Emerging Research Groups

The Agència de Gestió d'Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (AGAUR) has published the final resolution of the call for grants to support the activities of research groups in universities, centres and foundations. In this year's call, 21 IGTP groups have been recognised as Consolidated or Emerging Research Groups, 7 of which will receive funding totalling €340,000.

Funding of €1.2M from the Spanish Association Against Cancer for a research project on childhood liver cancer coordinated by IGTP

Encouraging news in the framework of the International Day Against Childhood Cancer. The Spanish Association Against Cancer, through its Aid Programmes, has granted 1.2 million euros to the coordinated project "Personalised Medicine for Childhood Liver Cancer". The five-year project will be coordinated by the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), under the leadership of Dr Carolina Armengol, with the participation of another four Spanish research groups. All participating groups are members of the CIBER of Hepatic and Digestive Diseases (CIBEREHD).

State funding of €1.8M to develop an advanced gene therapy for Friedreich's ataxia

The Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) and the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCII) will fund the project with 1.8 million euros within the R&D&I call linked to Personalised Medicine and Advanced Therapies in the framework of the Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation for Vanguard Health (PERTE for Vanguard Health) in gene therapy for Friedreich's ataxia.

GCAT-IGTP and ISGlobal launch third year of COVICAT-CONTENT study

The COVICAT-CONTENT 2023 study begins today, with the aim of monitoring COVID-19 in different cohorts in Catalonia and the rest of Spain. Researchers from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and the GCAT'Genomes for Life project of the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) evaluate the genetic and epidemiological determinants associated with the disease, as well as the long-term effects of the pandemic on people's physical and mental health and the evolution of the immune response. In this way, the objective is to help define predictive models and control policies for similar situations in the future.
