The Childhood Liver Oncology group (c-LOG) of the IGTP have organized the 2016 annual meeting for SIOPEL.  Originally the "Société Internationale d'Oncologie Pédiatrique - Epithelial Liver Tumor Study Group" SIOPEL has been renamed as the International Childhood Liver Tumors Strategy Group This international multidisciplinary group was founded to improve the diagnosis, treatment and long-term outcome of childhood liver cancer (hepatoblastoma HB and hepatocellular carcinoma HCC), very rare but highly distressing diseases in children.  As there are now over 100 institutions from Europe, Asia, Central and South America, Australia and New Zealand the annual meeting is a vital part of the group's activities.

This year Childhood Liver Oncology group (c-LOG), led by Carolina Armengol at the IGTP had the honour of organizing the 3-day meeting. Participants and members of the organization declared the event an overwhelming success and the best yet.

Clinical and basic researchers had the opportunity to meet and share insights management and translational research on pediatric liver malignancies at the meeting itself and the pre-symposium event Advances in molecular profiling to improve clinical management of the patient with liver cancer.  The meeting has been timely and extremely useful to organize the practical questions surrounding the first Pediatric Hepatic International Tumor Trial and the European ChilTERN project.   Carolina Armengol told us that she is very pleased with the how the meeting had gone and thrilled with the positive feedback. She highlighted the importance of the work to prepare ChilTERN, which she is quite sure will be translated into a real improvement in clinical management of these pediatric patients in the near future.
