Accredited institute

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is accredited as an Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria (IIS) - Health Research Institute in Spanish - by Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) since 2009. It was one of the first health research centres to be certified by ISCIII and, since then, it has renewed its accreditation every five years - the latest being in 2024. This recognition consolidates the position of IIS-IGTP as a reference centre in the management of biomedical research at the national level. It is a recognition of the excellence of scientific results, good management of biomedical research, and the beneficial returns in the healthcare, social, and economic fields of the research and innovation conducted by the entity.

What is an Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria (IIS)?

IIS are research-focused entities created through collaboration with hospitals in the Spanish National Health System, universities, public research organizations, and other public or private research centres. Their aim is to establish multidisciplinary research programs and policies that promote translational research.

Currently, there are 35 health research institutes accredited by the ISCIII, of which 8 are in Catalonia (IDIBAPS, IDIBELL, IR-HUVH, IIB Sant Pau, IMIM, IRB Lleida, I3PT and IGTP).

Composition of the IIS

Accreditation as a centre of excellence by ISCIII implies being responsible for coordinating research management and scientific strategy, working in close collaboration with the other centres that make up the IIS. In the case of IGTP, the core institutions are Germans Trias Hospital and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, together with other entities from the Campus Can Ruti and its surroundings (IrsiCaixa, Institut Català d'Oncologia, Banc de Sang i Teixits, Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute, Institut Guttmann, Fundació Institut Universitari per a la Recerca a l'Atenció Primària de Salut Jordi Gol i Gurina, and Consorci Sanitari del Maresme).
