The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) has published its 2023 Annual Report, which highlights the centre's collective achievements over the past year. It provides a comprehensive overview of the centre's activities, including detailed quantitative data on its scientific efforts, projects, events, innovations, and the contributions of its research groups and programs.

This 143-page interactive PDF is available in English, and for the first time, a summary version is offered in a OnePage web format. This web adaptation captures the most significant highlights of the year, incorporating interactive graphic content to delve deeper into the information.

The report underscores IGTP's unwavering commitment to excellence in biomedical research and its positive impact on global health, aligned with the motto: "Excellence in health research impacting patients' lives". This message is framed within the institute's 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, which was developed and began to be implemented in 2023.

Several figures illustrate the broad reach and quality of IGTP's activities, including the 1,077 scientific publications by its researchers, of which 26.28% were published in journals ranked in the first decile, 289 national and 43 international active projects, and the 698 clinical trials conducted in 2023. Other standout data includes over 200 active patents and the contribution of scientific platforms serving more than 1,000 projects.

Dr Jordi Barretina, director of IGTP, reflects positively on the year: "2023 marked a period of significant activity and transformation for IGTP. Throughout the year, our institution demonstrated unwavering commitment and conducted cutting-edge research, with continuous dedication to advancing both healthcare and our scientific understanding of diseases. The combined efforts of our research community, our dedicated staff, and our invaluable partners not only cemented IGTP's standing as a prominent biomedical research institute but also propelled our mission towards shaping a healthier and more equitable world".

Dr Barretina highlights the role of the GCAT'Genomes for Life project and the Comparative Medicine and Bioimage Centre of Catalonia (CMCiB). The former has made significant contributions to the study of chronic diseases and COVID-19, while the latter has been instrumental in validating medical devices, providing surgical training, and securing funding for innovative projects. He also emphasises IGTP's work on gender equality, science outreach, and training new scientific leaders throughout the year.

The scientific director of IGTP, Dr Julia García Prado, emphasises the importance of the strategic plan for the coming years. She highlights the ongoing work to strengthen research groups, consolidate cross-cutting programs, and enhance the centre's scientific infrastructure and collaboration opportunities. "As we celebrate our accomplishments, we are mindful of the challenges ahead. We are committed to addressing health disparities, championing diversity and inclusion, and enhancing our institutional resilience. Our strategic plan provides a clear roadmap for navigating these complexities".
