IGTP obtains the ISO 56001 certification in Innovation Management

- Innovation, Institutional

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) has obtained the international ISO 56001 certification, which recognises the implementation of a consolidated innovation management system aligned with international standards.

This accreditation acknowledges that the Institute has established processes and tools to identify opportunities, develop innovative projects, and transform scientific knowledge into tangible value for the healthcare system and society. It also highlights IGTP's ability to foster an organisational culture that promotes creativity, collaboration and the effective transfer of knowledge.

The ISO 56001 certification builds on the path initiated with the UNE 166002 standard, expanding it towards a more transversal and strategic model. While UNE 166002 mainly validated R&D&I processes, ISO 56001 integrates innovation across all institutional activities and provides a framework for managing it systematically and with measurable impact.

The objectives of ISO 56001 include:

  • Enhancing innovation capacity: by fostering an organisational culture that encourages creativity and collaboration at all levels.
  • Increasing value creation: by optimising processes to achieve measurable results in new products, services, and processes.
  • Reducing uncertainty: through systematic innovation management that improves adaptability to market changes and social needs.
  • Promoting continuous improvement: by establishing mechanisms to regularly assess and enhance the innovation management system.

According to Josep Mª Torras, project manager at IGTP's Innovation and Business Development Unit: "This certification is a recognition of the work carried out over the years to consolidate an innovation system integrated throughout the institution. It allows us to demonstrate to institutions and collaborators that we have a solid framework to drive and manage innovation".

With this certification, IGTP strengthens its commitment to excellence in innovation management and consolidates its position as a leading research centre, ready to face future challenges in the fields of health and science.
